Flowing lava from domain-warped noise

Procedural lava with a dark cooled crust floating on glowing molten rock, built from twice domain-warped fractal noise that slowly flows, with emission only on the hot parts.

How it works

Shader type
spatial
Parameters
crust_color (vec4 = 0.07, 0.05, 0.05, 1), lava_dark (vec4 = 0.62, 0.07, 0.02, 1), lava_bright (vec4 = 1, 0.66, 0.16, 1), scale (float = 3), flow_speed (float = 0.12), flow_angle_degrees (float = 20), warp_strength (float = 1.8), crust_amount (float = 0.5) and 2 more
Use it on
A mesh with UV coordinates.
Result
Black crust plates drifting over swirling orange glowing lava.

Limits to consider

Twelve fBm evaluations of four octaves per pixel make it one of the heavier shaders here; lower octaves for mobile. Flat: no displacement or normal relief. UV seams show where the mesh UVs are discontinuous.
